Oranges: Nutritional and Health Benefit for Everyday Diet

At first, it brings out greenish fruit, which tastes bitter at consumption, and then gradually turns to yellow fruit.  The yellow fruit signifies its ripeness, (sweet orange).

Tracing back the orange generation, from the various citrus species comes the orange or sweet orange. As an indication that differentiates it from the citrus among other plants are the Moraceae and Loganiaceae,

They are also known as orange plants and come from the family Rutaceae. The orange is a citrus fruit and people all over the world enjoy eating it a lot. It is a good source of vitamin c. and A very nutritious and healthy for the body.  For instance, you can supplement it with your meals and can process it to become orange juice.

The sweet orange contains so many amounts of vitamins, approximately some higher amount of sugar, and calories. Few amount of fiber, calcium, and a very low amount of protein. It has zero amounts of cholesterol, sodium, and fat including iron.

Orange can be acidic too, just as when you are peeling it, the vapor that comes out from the skin is irritating to the eye. It is very essential and recommendable to consume oranges as you freshly peel them. This is because most times after peeling the orange and you store them ordinarily without refrigerating them. It can turn brownish, making it produce some foul odor. Therefore, it is always advisable to consume the orange immediately after peeling off the skin.

The sweet orange contains a high amount of vitamin C and Vitamin A, an important nutritious substance found in most vegetables and fruits. Daily consumption helps to repair body tissue and improve body growth.  Those vitamins A and B perform so many functions in the human body.

It maintains growing teeth and keeps stronger the old ones

A high amount of orange is found in the sweet orange, due to this fact it is best to eat them in fruits than drink the juice. This is because the fruit contains a lesser amount of sugar, while the sugar contains in the juice is higher. During the time of processing the orange into juice, more sugar is added to it, which makes it sweeter.  

The sweet orange contains calories

The orange also contains a high amount of calories but is not equivalent to vitamins. Calories represent energy from food intake. Consuming this orange will help to produce the calorie that is needful for physical activities. No wonder people prefer supplementing their food with this fruit. Again also, the athletes and people who engage in sports activities consume it a lot before or after the events. However, it is not in the recommendation for weight loss.

It has low fiber and calcium

The orange is low in fiber and calcium. The fiber it contains is like a carbohydrate that is not easily digestive. But oranges are one good fruit that people eat to help soften the stomach for proper excretion. That is why among other fruit that has carbohydrates the orange has little fiber. This little amount is present in this fruit in other to fight cancer and other chronic diseases. The little amount of calcium in orange represents the mineral that helps to build stronger bones in the human body. It also supports the rigidity of teeth.

It is very low in protein

It contains lesser protein, unlike other fruits like apple, grape, banana, and pears. The orange contains much water, but then the vitamin it contains covers much of the needful nutrients in fruits.

The Orange as everyday diet

We use the orange to supplement our meals because of its richness in vitamins C and A. Take 1 or 2 ripe oranges after each meal, it helps in proper break down of every food intake and other solid materials. It also helps to flush out materials not needful to the body system.  You can consume this fruit at any given time, in your office, it is used for refreshment during break hours. When you are at home, even while in your car you can easily eat it with much easiness.

Some questions arise as if it is safer enough to consume the orange while it is in its greenish form. Some research proves that although it can give a sour taste when consuming the green orange. Notwithstanding this fact, most of the citrus, which includes the orange, can still have a greenish skin color even when it is ripe. This is because the green color still goes along to protect the orange from sunburn.  

Some domestic benefits of orange

The orange skin can be used as fuel for cooking our meals, in the early days, although it is still in practice in modern times. The skin of this fruit, either the greenish or yellowish skin, after peeling it, leaves it to dry and then is use as fuel for burning. People use it to supplement the firewood or add it up to the charcoal. This activity is mostly in Africa where the native use of wood is in vogue.
