8 Extra Care People with Diabetes Should Take to Live Longer

Diabetes is a kind of chronic disease that results from the high consumption of sugar. It is a group of diseases that result in too much sugar in the blood. A condition in which the body does not process food properly for use as energy.

We have Type 2 and Type 1 diabetes. The former is a chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar. While the latter is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. The key risk factor is the high level of sugar (glucose).

In this context, we are taking a look at people who are already living with the disease and have contracted it to the chronic level, and it’s incurable. So, we are advising on measures for them to take and ensure carefulness of their lives to live up to the required number of years expected of them.

1. Keep track of your blood sugar

Now and then, a patient with a diabetes record is expected to check his blood sugar level. He can do this either by visiting a Pharmacist or the person can acquire any of the devices called glucose meter. (if he is knowledgeable enough to use it by himself). This glucose meter is used to measure how much sugar is in the blood sample.

2. Avoid Red and processed meat

This is especially for aged adults, but most importantly for diabetic patients. Most of this red meat is high in saturated fat and remember that fat helps most of the illness to get to the chronic stage. Saturated fat raises blood cholesterol thereby increasing the risk of diabetes. Now, rather than choose to eat red meat or processed meat, a diabetic patient should choose line meat and poultry. They can also eat poultry and white meat.

3. Cut sugar and refined carbohydrate from your diet.

Most of the foods and fruits we eat on daily basis contain sugar. Now, for diabetic patients, it is advisable to avoid those that have much sugar in them like; sugar sweetens beverages, sweetened cereals, Honey, refined rice, and flavored coffee drinks.

4. Follow-up of medications and other health problems

Always ensure to take your medications and other health problems that occur outside the disease seriously. It is very necessary to take drugs and the required dosage as prescribed by the doctor or Physician is very thoughtful. Make sure you keep taking the prescribed diabetics medicine assigned by your doctor. Also, take insulin during sickness outside the diabetes case.   Again, any other sickness that occurs outside the diabetes illness should be treated with immediate effect. Then during the cause of taking your drugs, make sure to complain or get in contact with your doctor if in any way you develop contradictions towards those drugs.

5. Eat healthy fats

Healthy fats simply mean unsaturated fats like vegetable oil, walnuts, soya milk, and seeds. Eating much of them can help manage this illness. But the Individual should avoid animal fat.

6. Exercise daily

Doing this more often is another way of lowering blood sugar in a diabetic patient. It is as important as taking the prescribed diet and medication. It helps them to manage their weight, thereby improving blood sugar levels. Now, according to the American Diabetes Association, physical activities for adults with type 2 diabetes are recommended. At least 2 and half hours of moderate exercise per week is better.

7. Eat more beans, whole grains, nuts, fish, and vegetables.

All these foods are high in protein. They are a very good source for diabetic patients and also take vitamin D. They can help manage blood sugar levels. The best beans are kidney beans, black beans, and garbanzo beans.

8.  Eat Banana and some other fruits

Bananas are very good for people with diabetes; they are safe and nutritious fruit. For those suffering from this illness, it should be taken in moderation. When I say bananas, I mean newly ripped ones, but overly ripped ones should be avoided because it contains more sugar.  Other fruits are also good aside bananas like; citrus fruits, oranges, strawberries, and apples. While avoiding such fruits as watermelon, dates, and pineapple.
