Love language, especially in relationships is the simple way romantic partners express their positive emotions towards each other. The expression of love includes receiving and giving in a vice versa form. Every relationship that lives on a healthy ground has its language. Couples use this language to express intimacy and affection for each other.
It is not that the language is universal but within the couples, they already have their way of making each other understand what the other person means. Between married couples, families, or friendship, each of these desires one way or the other of showing care. It is one way of making the other person feel loved. It may prove difficult for some couples while it may be easier for others.
Gary Chapman, who is an author and a counselor, initially developed this love language.
Words of affirmation
In words of affirmation, couples prefer to express their feelings of affection through spoken words that show admiration. These vocal means may include words that melt the heart such as “I love you” or “I have been thinking of you”. They can use any words that seem irresistible and encouraging. They also use media engagement like video, text, and calls
This explains that when couples choose to use verbal language in expressing their love, they may have a special word or statement. For instance, when two couples decide to call each other “my love” it means the name they prefer. So rather, than call the biological names they use the love language, “My love”.
Again, if they prefer taxing each other, they agree to the use of text messages and that becomes their love language.
Couples who prefer quality time as their love language, just as the name implies schedule special time to hang out or go on a date. Both partners look forward to this special period and would have nothing to interrupt it.
During this quality time, they make sure to devote enough time to themselves until they feel exhausted with each other. They cherish each other’s warmth; speak of each other’s needs and worries.
This explains that as they spend time together, the language is all about talking and listening to the other person. There is the avoidance of every other object like phones and anything that may distract attention. They look at each other faces and read each other’s minds. The significant thing in the language is fully present and unremitting attentiveness
Act of service
This love language can be the direct opposite of words of affirmation because here couples prefer doing it to using words or written images. They could go extra to do the ordinary things they do for their partner. For instance, rather than say “I love you” they would rather want it in action than just saying it.
This explains that they would want to do those things that show they love the other person. If the other is having a difficult time or emotional issues, they will help by finding a suitable solution. Couples who use acts of service as their love language may not voice out what they want to do but will simply go ahead to do it.
Ordinarily, when people gift you one item or another, you begin to think of love. It happens especially when the person is not in any relationship with you. So, the gift may represent a symbol of visible love, not money. Therefore, when couples use receiving gifts as their love language it means gifting each other lovely items.
This explains that when couples choose to give and receive gifts as their love language they take time to make it special. They purposely pick a gift they believe their partner will value and be happy about it. The gift they believe will make the other person feel more loved.
Physical touch is a common language and couples as well make use of this language as they choose other languages. They prefer physical touch like kissing hugging caressing and other body movements couples use. In the same vein, couples who engage in physical touch may decide to use it as their love language.
This explains that some people can feel more attached to their partners when physical bodies march each other. Even when they are having issues the best language to dissolve it could be kissing, or hugging each other.
In conclusion, every relationship needs a particular love language for communication. This can help in better understanding and settling conflicts among couples. You can imagine a country without a particular language, and how the citizens and dwellers could cope. It means there will be no communication at all.
Any means of making someone else understand what you mean is all the same communication. Therefore, wherever the method couples choose to interact could be a wall of security from intruders.
